Project for Wildlife and Apes Conservation

A project to conserve chimpanzees and their natural habitat, the tropical rainforest, with the involvement of the local community

ALERT !!

RESCUE OF 38 PRIMATES !!

Unexpected rescue in Kinshasa

During the rescue of a young chimpanzee coming from the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, our agents and the Ministry of the Environment discovered about thirty primates.

The Ministry of Environment of the DRC immediately conducted an investigation. The primates were located, rescued and entrusted to us.

35 monkeys and 3 chimpanzees, in catastrophic conditions, have just arrived at the rehabilitation center.

All in a deplorable state, sick, anemic, injured, and terrified.

They are in quarantine to receive the necessary care and attention.

After this period, they will be transferred to the P-WAC forests, where they will return to life in the forest.

38 primates in one rescue is huge.

.

P-WAC has the space and forests to allow them to live in an environment similar to their natural habitat.

.

A fundraising campaign is being launched to fund their care, food, and the salaries of the additional caregivers

P-WAC’s Challenge

For Animals, For Humanity, For Earth

The lack of enforcement of animal welfare laws, the shortage of government funds devoted to the preservation and study of fauna and flora, and the global lack of understanding about local populations in these areas are the main aggravating factors behind the suffering of wild primate populations in the face of human activities and their harmful consequences (poaching, deforestation, urbanization, epidemics) in this vast country which is the Democratic Republic of Congo.

P-WAC wants to study and understand the interactions between wildlife and humankind in Central Kongo Province in order to better protect primates threatened with extinction. Through its scientific research, education and in situ conservation activities, P-WAC participates in global efforts to preserve the chimpanzee.

P-WAC is the only chimpanzee conservation initiative and the only rehabilitation center for primates in southwest DRC.

Our Actions

Protection of primates

In the south-west of the DRC, P-WAC has opened a rehabilitation center for primate victims of human activities such as poaching, deforestation and agriculture…

Our staff provide these orphan primates all the affection, respect and care they need to recover from their captivity, in order to give them back their stolen freedom in a protected area.

Preservation of forests

To protect a species, it is vital to preserve its natural habitat. P-WAC safeguards the forests of the Congo Basin, the natural habitat of chimpanzees, with its own anti-deforestation patrol and reforestation program. Our aim is to restore the tropical rainforest and help the wild fauna to come back.

Women & local community support

Man and Nature are inseparable. P-WAC works with local villagers to enable them to benefit directly from the preservation of the chimpanzee. While many villagers have found sustainable employment at P-WAC, involving rural and uneducated women is the heart of our project, as our logo attests.

Education

P-WAC offers educational workshops for children to pass on the keys to better preserve our planet to future generations. Our activities are geared to schoolchildren from 6 years, but we also educate college and high school youth. Conferences are offered to universities and companies. An educational program is under development in the DRC.
